hi Dr. Tallon, this break out session will start at 6:30pm after the main session at 6pm
He doctor talent. Can you hear me?
There is a bastion. Yeah I can hear you. Can you hear Maine?
Yes, I can. Awesome awesome.
OK, so I guess the the my controls like the camera control in the audio control or fruit with the people that are streaming in C.
And feel free to stay on just as you are right now, and you can definitely mute in the beginning of the session. I'll kind of introduce wait on people.
Allison is still going on on the other.
And then there's the video that doctor Bates will outplay doctor Bates Bush do his video, and then I introduce you and then give you the floor.
OK Alright Great Yeah now just talk to the slides.
Yeah, then feel free to do a Q&A for Christian dot on your last slide.
And then once you're done, I move forward with the other programs.
OK Alright OK cool yeah. And then I'll just and then how long are you expecting me to?
We we don't have necessary timeline, would trying to make sure that.
An yeah people get their questions answered.
Hope we don't take up an hour, but let's see, maybe like.
15 to 20 minutes. If we can cover most of those slides, that should be good.
And then that way I can talk about the humanities programs in the Fine Arts programs.
OK, great. How many people are in the.
So 4 hours I believe we have about, uh, let's see 28.
OK, Oh well, that's good.
Out of the 28, I'm not sure which ones.
Are Christian thought which ones are Fine Arts and humanities?
Trying to get it set up doesn't involve my my our guest room bed.
Nothing he said seemed less awkward, uhm?
Good morning, can you give me a very close up that bathroom door?
They enrolled in at least five credit hours each semester. That's just fall in spring.
Um again, for typically in non degree seeking students are not elliptical to financial aid, so keep that in mind if you're going to need any financial support.
And you have to accept your aid through your student portal. Uhm, and complete the required forms through there. Now that's on huskynet.com, and that's something that you would be set up on once you become a student, so that's where you'll be able to sell that stuff up.
So I'm guessing you don't want. I can go in the other room, turn on the washing.
Yeah, uh, this is Sebastian, so I wanted to try something.
And see if you're able to see the video play.
I can I can see the video.
Here it looks like I actually have control of her playing it myself.
You have you have control as well, yes?
Yeah, I just wanted to make sure that people can see it when we play it from our side.
He should be almost done. Allison is finishing up the last few slides.
And then once they are done, they will be able to click on a new link to come to ours.
And so should I just go ahead and turn on my video and audio?
Specially if you're also, um, productive town. Also, Jessica, one of our student worker, is.
The session and she will be helping out with answering any chance questions initially, but for the most part will encourage them to.
Putting the question in the chat and then will answer them at the end of our presentations.
OK, and do uhm well your control the flights, is that right?
Yeah, just you and I have control on the slides.
And we will get you set up for that. Um, our coordinators. Technically here, most of everything that you do in say.
So feel free to mute in the beginning and then join back. Listen, I think people are joining in now.
Ask us any questions you may have.
All right, people are trickling in from the main session.
Thank you guys for joining us.

One of them is that I am the director of graduate programs for the school and so that means that I do things like this even from my own home. As you'll see here, and I helped to get student oriented as they come in the door. Let them know about any programs, transfer any credit in that they might have, and then advise them initially about class they should take.

None of my favorite. Part of my job. I love working with new students and answering questions and so I have an email address. And so after the session is over, if anyone has any questions you can email me at pete.allen@hpu.edu. I also have a special love and care for our apologetics Department. I wished on the chair and so that means I oversee our Masters in apologetics and that has two different tracks within it. Philosophical and cultural apologetics, as well as our new Masters in intercultural studies, which is focused on.
Missions and evangelism. So if anyone's specifically interested in those things, I'd love to get a chance to tell you more. But I'm here to talk about all of the programs, and so we have some lovely slides.
That's how we are going to go through together here.
Let me see if I can advance the kind of click control slots.
And First off, is the truly the most important person at the school of Christian thought is named Celeste Risteski and she is our administrative assistant and she's great resource for any questions you may have coming in. So her email is is there. She's also on the website and chicken.
Sebastien Huang
06:38:28 PM
Feel free to put your questions on the chat, and we will do our best to answer them at the end of the session
Uh, help with many of technical questions that absentminded academics might forget. But here are the school of Christian thought Maine Department, so there are three Department within the school of Christian thought. There's theology and that encompass is our graduate undergraduate courses and theological studies. But then also in a lot of ministry preparation, so we have within the Medivh, the Masters of Arts in Christian leadership, the Masters of Arts, and.
Heather Brodersen
06:38:53 PM
Would you please explain what a Fast Term entails?
Theological studies we also have Department of Classics, an biblical languages and that is has a several Masters within it. There's Masters of Arts, Biblical languages. There's also a new Masters called the Masters parts and Classics in early Christianity we call them a kick and most of the art degrees are typically 3036 hours. That Medivh is 72 hours and then we have apologetics which I've already mentioned and we have Masters in.
Apologetics and then also Masters and intercultural studies. Now most of our degrees, not all but most of our degrees. You can take here in Houston or on lines we have online options as well for most of our our degrees and so so many of our students are in the wider world here, there and everywhere and studying with us in our professors. But so kind of in that can be helpful to students. Sometimes they need to switch between modalities and so obviously this is something which is pressing to a lot of people.
Uh, all around the world right now is how are we going to continue to do things we need to do, but without meeting face to face and touching each other and that sort of thing so online helps make that possible. But we have most of our programs available.
Let me stop for a moment and check.
Questions oh fast term uhm.
Robyn Franklin
06:40:27 PM
are summer and fall class schedules available somewhere online? I work evenings, so I'm trying to make sure that I can make it to classes. Are all classes available over summer or just select few?
So the question about faster so all this is a fine time to talk about that. So so typically most of your classes HB you will fit into very semesterly progression, so there's fall, their spring and our online classes are divided up basically so they split those semesters half and half. So fall 1 first, 8 weeks of fall, fall to the second, many weeks, and so if you're taking online classes would run for eight weeks.
Sebastien Huang
06:41:09 PM
Feel free to check out our website for more information for the Christian Though programs https://hbu.edu/school-of-christian-thought/
And then stop. And then you could start another online class and go remainder of the eight weeks. We have some exceptions to that though, and those are fast terms and so we have fast terms and before classes start in January and then after classes have ended in the spring. So before summer there are these cancel fast terms and then throughout summer there may be some other courses that are offered at different speeds and so forth.
Our summer, an fast class schedules available somewhere on line.
Heather Brodersen
06:41:31 PM
Thank you!
Yeah, so over the summer there are online courses available. Again, typically are online courses are going to be 8 weeks long and so there three credit hour. Typically graduate course that done over 8 weeks. So it's kind of half as twice as fast as a typical semesterly through credit hour course. And then for people who are working have other things going on then about 6 hours semester attempts to be a pretty good.
Uh, so if there's some if you're working, for instance, and you think it might be hard to make it to class, is twice a week. A lot of our graduate classes are in the evening, so like 6:30 to 9:00 is, you know, our new kind of range. We're offering things in the evening that works a little better for folks that are working and doing other stuff. If you can come and study us in the evenings, or if you need to take an online class because it doesn't work with your schedule. Of course you can.
Doing Unclogging class throughout the week as your schedule allows.
Let me talk a bit about each BU distinctives, and then I'll come back to.
Sebastien Huang
06:42:49 PM
For those here for the Humanities and Fine Arts programs, we will be sharing more about them after Dr. Tallon is done with the Christian Thought programs. Thank you for your patients and understanding.
Uh, questions that pop up in chat. So one of the best part about HP you is that we have small class sizes. You can really get to know your professors. Most of the professors are here because they love God. They love thinking about God and his self revelation and they also love working with students, so it's not uncommon as you sort of swing through school. Christian thought if I'm professor the door open pop talking with students popping in.
Patrick Owusu
06:43:12 PM
hi, i have a degree in art education and associate degree in theological studies can i pursue the M.A in Apologetics
And, uh, you know, catching up and that sort of thing staying after class to your house students are doing, and so there's A and you can see my daughter just sticking your hand out.
Uh, there behind me, UM, one of the joys of you know there are new virtual.
Marc James
06:43:52 PM
Will this webinar discuss the Master of Divinity English track
The another key thing is that many of our theology, professors, professors who teach classes in the Biblical languages or Bible or apologetics are also working in ministry or have worked in ministry, and so we're very much interested in the integration of faith and practice of the head, heart and hands.
We have a strong emphasis on classics and Biblical languages. At HP you it's their first pillar is building the Classics Tekee Classic for the whole world is the Bible understanding the Bible and so throughout your time you'll be taking classes on scripture, understanding it. Well, this is the bedrock of our all of our offerings in the school of Christian thought.
And maybe the last thing that's worth mentioning is that we have a number of partnerships with different churches and ministries. One of our key partnerships with Second Baptist Church, six largest church in the nation, and we have offered some of our seminary classes through Second Baptist. So through their Woodway campus, the Katy campus different nights that week and so Houston to big town, and that can help to for people to get to the different locations as they need to.
Let me see what other questions we have.
So we have a question. Hi, I have a degree in Art Education, an associate degree in theological studies. Can I pursue the MA in apologetics? Yeah, so.
Uh, one of the things that we take into account for our Masters is that students come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Of some students are. This is a second karere, or maybe you know they studied something as an undergraduate, and now they're kind of shifting focus as they figure out what they want to do. And so there. So we will take you from the wherever you are up to where you need to be, and so if you haven't done, for instance, work in.
The Bible Biblical languages theology. Before we have some introductory classes that we may require you to take or just built into the program that will then get you up to speed to help you to go on. So regardless of your academic background in the past you can jump into any of our degrees and we will get you up to speed.
That includes first AMA in apologetics.
I have a second question will this women are discussed the Masters in Divinity English track? Yes, I could talk about that. We have one of our degrees that we have is our M dev and the end of has a biblical languages track that requires work in Biblical languages, Greek or Hebrew. And then that's built into the degree plan. We also have an English language track where students are working with.
Scripture they're working. You know, understanding Herman Herman new ***** preaching all kinds of aspects of Administry but does not require work in Biblical languages. And so the two the two degree plans are available online. You can see and compare and I recommend doing the local language is if you can, but English language track is one that is very popular and definitely worthy of pursuing.
Let me talk a bit about HB. You as a setting.
HBO is like city of Houston is very diverse. There we have students from a wide variety of different backgrounds. Places in the US, places in the world and we really strive to look like the world. At HB you we?
Terra Campbell
06:48:04 PM
What is your favorite part of the MACL program?
We are a mirror Christian University. We have a faculty and students that come from a range of different denominational background. So we really try and focus on the core aspects of Christian faith and teaching and prepare students for that, and then allow students as they need to to pursue more specialized training that might help them for the particular church context. But we have a lot of students from a lot of different backgrounds.
If you are pursuing ministry, one of the things that I recommend that you check out and this is on the graduate programs website are scholarships that are, you know, either specific. The School of Christian thought or specific to your degree, even possibly. And so there are different possibilities for.
Patrick Owusu
06:48:31 PM
is it possible to pursue two masters program within the same period
Other being part of the Covenant Fellows program, their graduate program scholarships that are worth looking at. An actually a number of those.
If you're planning on coming in the fall or worth looking at because there are some that are due this spring, they make the deadline originally was April 1st, but I believe it's been extended and if I'm incorrect about the Sebastian can correct me. It's been extended to April 15th.
Looks like all of our taxes and pushed back a bit.
Sebastien Huang
06:49:04 PM
April 15th is correct
There are there other scholarships that I think are worth checking out. A special says I'm right. It is April 15.
A couple of questions here. What is your favorite part?
Sebastien Huang

06:49:31 PM
I saw that a person is able to earn a certificate like life coaching, how does that work with the master's program
Maybe M ACL programs them ACL Masters of Arts in Christian leadership is one of the programs that we offer here that specifically focused on people who are looking to serve in leadership capacity in the church. It's more flexible degree with some customization, so I think it's ideal for people who really want to work. Kind of practically in some area of ministry and it it sort of.
The MACL on the mats are sort of Sisters in this regard. They're both fairly flexible. The mats is really focused on theological training and Christian leadership degree is focused on practical training. A lot of our practical training is available through our partners. We have people who are working in churches day in day out doing this sort of stuff, teaching the classes, and helping to train you all for Christian Ministry.
There's another question. Which is it possible to pursue 2 Masters program within the same period?
And that's a bit of a complicated question, because it depends on the program, but I will say that there are certain programs that.
Kind of fit together, so if say you wanted to do a Masters of Arts in theological studies and then shift into the end if those two play very well together, you can kind of begin one and then should move on and take the next one and earlier credits will count toward the later ones. The typically it's best if you want to pursue to Masters to go ahead and plan on the first finish that one and then begin the next one, and some of the work that you've done in the first one.
May done transfer over account or the second one, but you wanna come complete that first one first?
Um, alright, so other person is able to earn a certificate.
Marc James
06:51:25 PM
Does the Masters of Divinity require a thesis?
Sebastien Huang
06:51:28 PM
You won't be allowed to pursue both masters at the same time per our university policy
Silvia Polanco Euan
06:51:37 PM
I have a question, What is the difference into Cultural Apologetic and Philosophy Apologetic?
Yeah, so we have a number of certificates, so they're typically about 12 hours graduate certificate and there are listed on the website. You can see the certificates within the school of Christian thought and a certificate is offers graduate credits in the same way that the rest of our graduate classes do. So you're taking real graduate classes, you're getting credit for them, so if you do a 12 hour certificate then so we have apologetic certificates of the 12 hour shift in politics. He said really, love this. Want to keep going?
Then you could just keep going and all those 12 hours would count towards your degree, so they would just roll right in the.
There are. There's also another possibility, which is someone who is pursuing a degree.
Um may also contain within that a certificate, so part of your degree can be a specialization that certificate that will be awarded to you and will be recognized at graduation is having earned the certificate, and then you can say awful have ACL and then I have a specific certificate within this area gives you some additional credential that shows that you've pursued training and worked hard in a particular area.
Let me click on to the next slide and then I'll come back and talk about some of the.
Marc James
06:53:04 PM
How would a person incorporate earning a certificate into their masters degree where classes are concerned
Other excellent questions. Oh look, here's pictures of happy students and smiling professors. This is what your experience will be like. There are some professors very proud of their their graduates to the process that you will study with Ben Blackwell and Randy Hatchet. There are some other students studying with William Lane Craig when the world's foremost apologists when he visits here every semester.
Scholars that are here at HB you so HBU is a as a stable of stallions, just a load of excellent faculty members. So people like Michael Ward, arguably the world's leading CS Lewis expert, an antipiracy is widely known writer. An apologist doctor Craig Evans, one of the world's leading New Testament scholars. People like Robert Gagnon just join the staff. Another excellent New Testament scholar. So we've got a faculty that's actively publishing vested in the academic world. Also invest in the church and so HBO is a great launching place.
Or connections to the wider world of academia?
Let me go back to the questions.
Does the Masters of divinity require a thesis? It does not, though that is an option and if you're interested in going on doing further academic work, that's when I would suggest pursuing.
What's the difference between cultural projects and philosophical projects? We have two tracks, so philosophical apologetics is a bit more of the typical kind of apologetics that I think people are accustomed to so.
Philosophical arguments for God's existence. You know, dealing with classic philosophical theological problems like problem, evil frameworks, understanding, kind of how people will tend to do apologetics weather, some really helpful approaches, arguments for the history of the resurrection, and and so forth. And so you have a lot of work in what we see is kind of like the main sort of conventional areas of argumentation. Science and faith. Is there a conflict there? They actually go hand in hand, that sort of thing.
There's an so, uh, student, who's pursuing the philosophical apologetics will do our core set of 15 hours in apologetics and then specialize in branch off into philosophical apologetics. Cultural apologetics is one of the real distinctives of HP you. It's something that we have a special ability, and we have the faculty that's been recruited to.
Teach cultural apologetics, which is kind of a new thing and that focus is very much more on understanding the wider world of Culture. Sort of all the things that surround us and influence us, but you know, which are sometimes kind of invisible and so people save culture that it's sort of. It's all the things you have to explain, right? It's just these kind of basic assumptions that we all have the how the world should be and how the world works. We want to not just go along with these things blindly, but understand them. Some of the big things that influence us culturally are works of Arts.
Economic system we participate in, you know, sort of all of the kind of ideas that are floating around that we hear through the news and elsewhere. And so a lot of it is things that are caught more than taught, right?
And so, cultural apologetics helps to understand those sorts of things and then also teaches us how to engage with them, respond to them and.
And even create works of culture that can help people to love and know God better. And so one of our heroes, HBO is CS Lewis. He does great philosophical apologetics, but then he also is really.
Dina LeRoy
06:56:26 PM
Are the delays in streaming on my end or your end?
Great writer of fiction and chanting of hearts and minds and helping people to Love God through their imaginations. That cultural apologetics is going to be more focused on that sort of thing.
Heather Brodersen
06:56:40 PM
I have no delay Dina...
How would a person incorporate earning certificate in their Masters classes are concerned? So the most of our Masters have some flexibility within them. But the certificates basically are typically 12 hours and so if you have a 36 hour Masters and then you can have a focus in.
In your certificates that then can fit within their and so it depends on the degree a little bit. If any other credit you bring in and so your advisor can kind of help. Just show you kind of locator the classes you want to take here. So this is going to work or something big like an end. If it's very easy to fit in Specialization, something like them, ACL or the Maps. Also very easy. These are flexible degrees that have some kind of that are built basically to allow people to specialize.
And I think those are. There's a question about delays.
But I can't speak to those things.
We have some special offerings here so we can link. Rag is on campus or typically he is. He's not this semester for obvious reasons. Tied comes into just special classes on apologetics and philosophy. Other times, other visiting people will be here. Michael Ward's plan to be here for this semester teach about the theology of Narnia. There other special visiting professors that we have that come in and teach for us.
Heather Brodersen
06:58:10 PM
How many concurrent classes count as a "full-time" student? I am a veteran and only get my stipend if I am a full time student. I have to take at least 1/2 the classes at the school.
And so HP is a great place if you really are eager to study, you have kind of small class sizes caring professors. But then also the chance to work with some of the top.
Theologians, publishing of writers and thinkers right now, while being in Houston, and so it's.
Really, it kind of a jam for being able to to get connected to the wider world of scholarship.
How many King? How many concurrent classes count as full time student? Uhm.
So for most and Sebastian can.
Dina LeRoy
06:58:58 PM
Did you cover pros and cons of philosophy of apologetics vs. Apologetics?
Uh, typically full time at the graduate level means that you're taking at least six hours, and so that and for most of our students then.
The, uh, most of our students you'll six hours tend to be a pretty good.
Number of classes 9 hours is really intended for a student who is doing nothing else but schooling. Because if you.
Every hour you take, you should plan to spend about 3 hours of work outside the classroom, so that's three hour class is 9 hours outside the classroom, and then you should Add all that up and then basically that's a pretty much a 40 hour week to take care of everything that we do, so six hours tend to be.
A fairly good I do have some students who are veterans and and that, um.
And that we are taking classes on campus and then taking some classes online. And though I think they either have to take six or nine hours, but I'm not familiar with some of the details so.
So the correct policy as a student to account full time would be 9 hours, which is 3 classes.
Yeah, so uh? Six credit hours which is 2 classes would count as part time.
OK, but a lot of the OK, so thank you Sebastian. So a lot of the students. But there are some scholarships and things that basically you have to beat 8 year. Typically if you're taking it, take a five hours or above in order to qualify for scholarships.
Right, so all scholarships and financial aid you will need to have at least five hours or more. So two classes is typically the minimum.
But how we doing on time, Sebastian?
Heather Brodersen
07:00:39 PM
Thank you gentlemen!
Uh, we're pretty good on your side, and if you have if there's any other questions regarding the Christian dot programs, feel free to let us know. Now answer that doctor Alan can address them in once we finish that side of things, we will move on to the next programs.
I see we have a question on pros and cons of.
Philosophical apologetics, so I said we have kind of 2 two different focuses here in our apologetics program we have cultural apologetics. We have a core of apologize classes that everybody takes, and then there are some specialization and understanding literature in apologetics. Philosophical projects on my wife's passing me a note.
Yeah, which I'm answering here. Uh, she the quick note says are you going to eat salad? Check one of these boxes, yes or no? I checked yes.
Heather Brodersen
07:01:37 PM
Good choice!!!
Marc James
07:01:48 PM
Salad is a healthy choice!!!
The pros of philosophical apologetics are for people who.
Wants to basically, you know, do sort of debate, style, argumentation, were interested in philosophical argumentation who want to kind of as it were, do sort of more kind of interacting, more traditional forms of apologetics. So addressing objections from science, our arguments and evidence for the resurrection, trustworthiness, scripture, understanding, how to do, pursue kind of philosophical, logical argumentation, like that's really, if that's really your focus, then philosophical apologize. So great place for you.
If you are interested in.
Kind of a more sort of broad reaching approach to apologetics, maybe something that's you know taking into account creativity or it's approaching things from a different angle. Then cultural apologetics may well be.
The the track that you're interested in, but do you know if you if you'd like to know more? I'd love to talk to you more some other time. Yes, thank you. Salad is the healthy choice so.

Alright man again for free too. Also saved these contact information, but you can also find them on our website.
To talk about the Humanities program.
Again, feel free to put your questions in the chat box as we go forward.
So HBU also offers the school of humanities, including the Master of Liberal Arts, Master of Arts and philosophy, and Master of Arts in history. These three programs all are.
Able to be completed within the two year Pro 2 year timeframe.
Many of the things that doctor talent had talked about regarding our campuses school format in the way these classes are taught are similar across the board, and so again.
In the liberal arts philosophy and history we have.
Great professors who are expert in their field in their fields.
The knowledge in great expertise in the classrooms.
You're looking at 30 six credit hours for the liberal arts.
As they dive into deeper studies in the liberal arts and science, emphasis on the Great Books in the western traditions.

For the MAA cultural apologetics program, looking at cost/benefit, is studying on campus a much better experience than online? Asking as a foreign student with a young family and very interested in worldview but weighing up the pros and cons! Your thoughts?
Massive arts and philosophy will be focusing on the training and critical and philosophical skills that are useful for any further academic studies, an.
And our Master of Arts in history actually is pretty new. The past few years and started. I think two years ago.
An you will be doing a lot of scholarly research and looking at the philosophy of history, European American history and variety of other specialized topics.
These courses are combined with classical liberal arts in the Christian worldview, so that's definitely one of our.
Specialty as a Christian University.
Again, these are small classes with seminar based lectures, and faculties are distinguished in there.
And you are able to do this part time or full time. And again, that's six credit hours for part time and full time would be 9 credit hours.
If you're interested in doing research or thesis in these programs, those options are available as well.
If you're here for any of these programs, would you be able to let me know if you have any specific questions and I'd be more than happy to try to answer them?
Jessica Ikoya

On campus I can say that you have easier access to resources like the tutoring center and professors.
You may contact Kathy as she is.
Our admin assistant for the school of Humanities and she can always give you more information as well.
Thank you Jessica for answering that question.
So for the school of Humanities, there isn't much more information that I am.
At this point, if you have any questions, feel free to let me know.
Alright, so let me also cover real quick and just some of the general requirements and missions for the liberal arts all we need will be just your personal statement in your resume.
As well as the online application and that is the same for the Master of Arts in philosophy.
Jessica Ikoya
07:09:15 PM
For online classes you have to be diligent and willing to put time aside to get your studying done. It is very possible to be successful in both aspects.
And then for the Master of Arts in history, you will be required to include a writing sample of at least 8 pages.
And that can be submitted.
In your application portal.
Our students in MI program.
Represent a variety of educational backgrounds and ages, and so does agree an.
Is of particular interest to those in areas such as education, business law, Medison and engineering who desire higher level inquiry into the liberal arts.

If there is no other questions.
Feel free to just send an email or reach out to me.
At the phone call and I'd be more than happy to.
